Catch Our Show at the Carnegie Library in Freehold Boro

Its always a treat to visit Freehold Boro Library. The beautiful Carnegie building, dating back to 1903, is set back from the sidewalk at 28 1/2 East Main Street. Its inviting entrance hints at the interior’s original architectural features and welcoming ambiance. The Freehold Art Society appreciates having such an elegant setting for our rotating art show. Each show displays about 30 pieces of original artwork including sculptures, and each work is shown only once.

Next Up: Alcohol Ink

The Freehold Art Society is pleased to be welcoming Artist Karen Fillus of Spirit Designs by Karen as the next in our “Try a New Medium” series. Karen will demo several techniques used in the process of creating alcohol ink artwork. Join us at our next general meeting May 22, 6:30-8:00 pm at the Monmouth County Library Headquarters on 125 Symmes Road in Manalapan.* Please park in rear. Note this is a demo not a workshop. Some examples of Karen’s fantastic work below.

We recently spent a few minutes

with Kathy, a senior staffer. We asked about the show’s impact on library personnel and the public.

“Occasional visitors often don’t realize it is a rotating show, and they assume the art work is a permanent installation. Our regulars though look forward to new art coming in,” Kathy explained. “Quite often the regulars take a slow tour of the new art display, sometimes returning to certain pieces more than once,” The art show helps the Freehold library create a welcoming and interesting atmosphere for its visitors.

As for the staff, “We love it,” Kathy said. “The rotating art shows keep the library feeling fresh for us too. We enjoy seeing an artist’s voice come through in different works over time. We also enjoy meeting the artists when they come in, putting a face to the painting so to speak.”

Kathy spoke highly of the show’s director, Linda Hart, a Freehold Art Society board member. Linda, nearly single handedly, pulls it all together for the artists, the Art Society, the library and its visitors, throughout the year. Thanks to Linda, Freehold Boro library is a place where local artists and the local community can intersect on a daily basis.
