ARTIST/TEACHER/ART JUROR
CAROLYN TISCHER BARTLETT was born and raised in New Haven, Connecticut as the youngest in an artistic family. Long before she entered school, she began drawing and painting with local artists who regularly visited her parents. In her early teens she studied watercolor techniques with New England artist, Frederick T. Fay, and oil painting with George Osborne among many other well-known artists. Later, she attended the Paier School of Art in Hamden, Connecticut, and refined her watercolor style under John A. Neff, noted artist and photographer.
TISCHER BARTLETT has worked in many mediums, including oil, acrylics, watercolors, pen and ink, pencil, etc. Her favorite medium is pastel painting. She loves the depth of color that can be achieved using a variety of materials, from pastel pencils to the very softest pastel chalks. This medium allows the artist to layer colors, create subtle textures and introduce intricate details into the work. She frequently works in charcoal when developing an idea for a painting.
Best known during her early career as a portrait artist and figure painter, TISCHER BARTLETT is now recognized as a fine portrayer of landscapes, still life and animals. An art instructor, she enjoys sharing her knowledge and love of art with her students. She currently teaches drawing, and painting to children and adults at various locations in Monmouth County. She continues to study and participate in professional art workshops whenever possible.
